Queensland's regional landscape has given the world a lot of strange and beautiful things. Add to that list Cruisin' for a Bruisin' - a high-octane eight-part web series blending bogan soundtrack, contemporary dance, regional rivalry and a gloriously unhinged dose of Australian absurdity. Director Ryan Renshaw's series is set in and around Killarney, tears through panel-beating feuds, hotted-up cars, greyhounds and creekside camping, and sits somewhere between cult comedy, camp spectacle and chaotic social satire.
At the centre of the chaos are twin sisters Britt and Tracey - both played by Kate "Babyshakes" Dillon of Full Flower Moon Band — while TikTok creator Taron Geyl (Taza) narrates proceedings as God. Produced by Kiosk Films with support from Screen Queensland, Cruisin' for a Bruisin' is what happens when artists from across disciplines collide, take creative risks, and make something new without apologising for it.
Open Season hosts an exclusive big-screen preview at The Princess Theatre on 14 July, followed by a Collab in Conversation panel discussion on the creative process behind the series, designed as a cultural gathering rather than a traditional industry talk, the event invites audiences into the creative process while celebrating the wider ecosystem that enables artist-led projects including venues, collaborators, funders and audiences themselves.
Full Program of events and speakers to be announced.
For anyone who believes the best Australian stories are still being told from the strangest places.
Open Season is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland's Strategic Partnerships Fund, and by the Australian Government through the Office for the Arts Revive Live program.
