Hailing from San Francisco, pop visionary underscores announces her highly anticipated return to Australia this summer, for three special theatre shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this December.
A bona fide auteur, underscores, aka April Harper Grey, arrives in Australia off the back of her trailblazing third album U [Mom+Pop]. Revered by music obsessives and critics alike, U is undoubtedly one of the year’s best and boldest pop releases, amassing more than 80 million global streams. What began as a series of SoundCloud uploads from a teenager making music in her childhood bedroom, before her official debut with 2017’s skin purifying treatment EP, has since evolved into a shape-shifting catalogue where adventurous hyperpop, alt-pop and fearless genre experimentation collide at full speed.
underscores has built one of music’s most devoted cult followings. Profiled by the likes of Interview, The FADER, Vogue, Pitchfork, Wonderland and Crack Magazine, she’s graced the cover of NME and earned a triple j Feature Album for U, released in March. Transforming nostalgia, desire and modern alienation into a kinetic rush of hooks, electronics and emotional left-turns, U is the follow-up to her concept album Wallsocket, and 2021’s bedroom-chaos debut, fishmonger. From co-founding electronic collectives to playing alongside artists such as 100 gecs, Porter Robinson, and soon Charli XCX an upcoming US run, underscores has appeared on major festival lineups worldwide, including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Corona Capital. Breakout single ‘Harvest Sky’ saw her team up with Oklou, while other collaborations include Yaeji and Danny Brown.
Joining underscores at all headline shows is New York-based producer umru.
underscores returns to Australia this December – be there for the moment.
