Across the last few years, 1tbsp, the Meanjin-born, Gadigal-based producer, songwriter, DJ and Dottidot label founder, has quietly assembled one of electronic music's most distinctive universes – a glossy, hyper-coloured landscape where reggaeton drums collide with toy-box synths, club music sparkles with pop sentiment, and every release feels like a portal into somewhere slightly unfamiliar.
Following a huge run of international touring in the first half of the year, including appearances at Coachella, a North American Bubble Tour and a residency at London's Phonox, 1tbsp now returns home to Australia with Bubble Tour - a live show that expands his ever-evolving world.
Originally known through his Grammy-nominated alt-indie project Golden Vessel, Maxwell Byrne launched 1tbsp in 2021 as an outlet for stranger ideas. What began with the kanashī EP soon evolved into a fully realised creative universe, culminating in the release of his debut album Mosquito Love and later the acclaimed Megacity1000.
Released in 2024, Megacity1000 arrived like a transmission from a parallel metropolis - equal parts club record and pop experiment. Across the album's eight tracks, Byrne fused candy-coated percussion, shimmering vocal fragments and bright, maximalist production into a sound entirely his own. Support quickly followed from Pitchfork, Mixmag, CLASH, The Line of Best Fit and EARMILK, cementing 1tbsp as one of Australia's most forward-thinking electronic exports.
That same spirit extends beyond his own catalogue through Dottidot, Byrne's label and creative platform, which has become home to a growing network of artists and collaborators. Recent releases from label affiliates Soltera and Cherry Chola continue to expand the architecture of this ecosystem.
Now, for the first time, Bubble Tour arrives in Australia this August.
