Featuring original works by some of Brisbane’s hottest new performance makers, THE DPS LAB is a one-night only theatrical event.

Showcasing three new visual theatre works by Dead Puppet Society’s Academy artists, this year’s bill includes Human Scaffolds Marvellous Creations by VOiiiD Collective, Survival on a Strange Planet by Darcie Rae Boatswain and Calum Johnston, and Small Planets by Julie Ritchey and Georgette Kelly.

With fresh vibes and beats at The Princess Theatre’s outdoor bar and behind the scenes tours of Dead Puppet Society’s Fabrication Workshop before and after the show, don’t miss this sizzling smorgasbord of unexpected and experimental theatre.

About the works

Human Scaffolds Marvellous Creations by VOiiiD Collective

Human Scaffolds Marvellous Creations by VOiiiD Collective is a journey of self-discovery through a fantastical world. This immersive experience features dance, recycled wearable art, an original sound score, and generative AI visuals - all to be enjoyed from the comfort of your seat and the outer bounds of your imagination.

Small Planets by Julie Ritchey and Georgette Kelly

Small Planets by Julie Ritchey and Georgette Kelly invites babies and their caregivers to become intergalactic co-pilots on a journey through a universe where everyone is new. They will visit different planets through imaginative, collaborative play involving all five senses. During this shared adventure, carers will find opportunities to see their babies as leaders and inspirations.

Survival on a Strange Planet by Darcie Rae Boatswain and Calum Johnston

After crash landing into an Earthling’s apartment in 1994, an interstellar traveller plans their entry into the outside world. Their only points of reference are an unresponsive human body and a collection of dated sci-fi movies. Survival on a Strange Planet by Darcie Rae Boatswain and Calum Johnston explores the Other through circus, clowning and puppetry.

About DPS Academy and THE DPS LAB

DPS Academy is Dead Puppet Society’s flagship artist training program and an incubator for new design-led performance work. Presented in partnership with The Princess Theatre, DPS Academy invites theatre makers of all disciplines to participate in a ten-part masterclass series exploring Dead Puppet Society’s creative methodologies. Over the course of the program, artists undertake creative development of their own original performance concepts, under the mentorship of Dead Puppet Society.

Dead Puppet Society is an international production house and design-led theatre company creating deeply imaginative visual theatre, public art, and sculpture, combining timeless craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.

Presented in partnership with The Princess Theatre. DPS Academy is supported by The Jelley Family Foundation. Additional program support provided by Studio1.
